Sinchon Calls for Revenge

Sinchon County of South Hwanghae Province is a place haunted by people as a hub of transportation which is linked with Jaeryong, Anak, Samchon, Jangyon, Thaethan and other counties in the province. During the temporary strategic retreat in the Fatherland Liberation War the US troops occupied Sinchon County where they killed many local people.

On October 17, 1950 a company-strong US troops arrived at the county by two military trucks and jeeps. That day a US officer Harrison organized “Police Corps,” “Peace-keeping Corps,” “Student Armed Force” and other reactionary groups with some remnants from the exploiting class, who were liquidated after Korea’s liberation (August 1945), and elements who harboured dissatisfaction about the policies pursued by the DPRK.

Putting them in the forefront, the US troops committed a massacre of the local people. They imprisoned 900 people in the air-raid shelter of the building of Sinchon County Party Committee and killed them all by spreading gasoline, and burnt to death or buried alive many people en masse irrespective of sex or age. They even cut the abdomen of pregnant women, and spiked nails into skulls or sew heads.

Such crimes were committed in every part of the county including the air-raid shelter attached to the building of the county security station, Sowon and Pogu reservoirs, the sanatorium at Onchon-myon and the powder magazine in Wonam-ri.

During 52 days of their occupation between October 17 and December 7, 1950, they killed 35 383 people (19 149 men and 16 234 women), one fourth of the county population. Typically, they killed 87 percent of the population of Mangung-ri, Kunghung-myon and 68 percent of the population of Ryongdang-ri, Onchon-myon.

The International Democratic Federation of Women and the International Democratic Association of Lawyers sent their investigation teams to Korea in May 1951 and March 1952 respectively. The members of the investigation teams exposed the barbarous crimes by the US imperialists, terming the US crimes the most vicious challenge against mankind and the most flagrant violation of international law.

The US murderous gangs killed the local people in Sinchon County on the charges that they had led a happy life in the embrace of the Republic for five years after the country’s revolution and that they had paid tax in kind and donated rice to the country out of patriotism.

At that time many Korean people fell victim to the US troops because they did not set out on the road of retreat in the belief that the Americans would not kill them as they are humans like them.

Sinchon soaked with blood leaves the Korean people the lesson that illusions about enemy are precisely killing themselves and they should settle accounts with aggressors by means of arms.

Materials that bear testimony to the crimes of the man-killers continued to be discovered in Sinchon. Recently, 38 corpses and vestiges have been found in a dug-out around the powder magazine in Pamnamu(chestnut tree)-gol, Wonam-ri. Among them are facial bones and skulls driven with rusty blades of rye, broken skulls and limb bones, and other bones of different parts of the human body with bullets.

Still now, the soul of the numerous deaths in Sinchon is calling for revenge.

This appeal will be forever etched in the hearts of the Korean people. They are full of determination to revenge on the US imperialist aggressors by sweeping them away from their country.
