There is a sanctuary of Kuwolsan water-deer in the area between Anak and Samchon counties, situated in the southern slope of Mt Kuwol in the northwestern region of South Hwanghae Province. Shrubs grow in the slope. Water-deer rests in the shrubs or dents in daytime and rarely goes out of its habitat.
Water-deer in Korea is a subspecies indigenous to the country, and Mt Kuwol is its representative habitat.
