Mts Pukphothae and Namphothae are located in the Phothae area in the city of Samjiyon with beautiful landscape.

Mt Pukphothae with rich forest resources is 2 288 metres high. Papaver radicatum and other alpine plants, and rhododendron, bog bilberry and other shrubs grow in the area above 2 000 metres. 

Mt Namphothae is 2 433 metres above sea level. Seen in the area above 2 000 metres is rhubarb, a natural monument. The communities of Pinus pumila, rhododendron and dryas are found in the area above 2 100 metres, and burnet, veratrum and other plants growing well in the swampy basin. 

Abies nephrolepis and spruce grow in the area between 1 600-2 100 metres above sea level, and Korean larch and white birth in the lower area. There are many Korean poplars and willows in the east valley. In the mountain there are many animals of various species, including sable, marten, antelope and musk deer.
