National Confectionery: Tasik

From olden times, the Koreans prepared a variety of confectionery with high nutritive and pharmacological values that appeal to their tastes, including taffy, tasik (patterned savory cake) and fruit jam, by making use of various materials.
According to the kinds of main materials of making the cake, one of national confectionery, it is called wheat tasik, chestnut tasik, soybean tasik, etc.
Its patterns looked beautiful as the cake was used mainly on ceremonial occasions rather than in daily dietary life.
The cake is also made with rice flour mixed with various Koryo medicinal materials.
Today the Korean technicians in the foodstuff industry are making steady efforts to further develop the national confectionery.
