Songhung, located on the outskirts of Kimchaek, North Hamgyong Province, is a reservoir for irrigation purpose. It was built by damming the Kalpha Stream, a tributary of the Rimmyong Stream.

The reservoir is surrounded by Mt Songhung (447m) covered mostly with pine forests and other mountains below 200m above sea level. At its lower side stretches an alluvial plain that came into being through sedimentation in the Rimmyong and Kalpha streams.

It covers an area of 0.82km2. The main water source is atmospheric precipitation from the catchment area and underground water.

The Songhung hot spring, a simple radon spa, was found in 1692.

The alkali hot spring is used in treating various diseases as it promotes blood circulation, metabolism, anti-inflammation and pain killing.

Around the hot spring are the Songhung and other sanatoriums.
