Natural Monument: Talgal Rock in Mt Kumgang
The Talgal (egg-shaped) Rock in Onjong-ri, Kosong County, Kangwon Province is located on Mt Talgalbawi on the left of the beginning of the road to Kuryongyon from Onjong Bridge in Outer Kumgang.
The granite rock with different degrees of hardness was shaped as it was weathered through ages.
The oval rock is 7m high and 20-21m long in the longer perimeter, and 15m in the shorter one.
As the enormous rock sits on a corner of a plane, spacious rock bed, it looks as if it would roll down at a touch.
But, for its stable balance, it has long maintained its original state without falling down.
Its name was derived from the fact that it looks like an egg when viewed from any side. Many poems and songs were written about it.
The rock with singular and mysterious looks presents a peculiar view and is of significance in academic research.
