Explaining the Method of Eating Frozen Pears

In the middle of January in 1948, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung visited a mountain village in Anchang-ri, Sijung County, Jagang Province. He met the members of a Party cell in the village at a house and discussed the way for the villagers to live well off.

After a good while, it was time for lunch. The couple of the house discussed what to serve for him. But they felt sorry as they had nothing but frozen pears soaked in cold water.

As if reading their minds, Kim Il Sung said: Eating pear in winter is quite delicious. From olden times our ancestors liked to eat frozen pear as its taste was refreshing.

When an accompanying official was about to peel the pear with a knife, he picked up a pear and peeled it off with his hands, and explained the way of eating the frozen pear. He continued: The pear tastes very good. They say that the pear grows well over here. So, if every family plants pear trees and looks after them well, they will have a large crop of delicious pears. Well stored, this fruit will come in handy when they have a guest or will be refreshing if they eat a few when suffering from a headache.

Still today, a large number of pear trees planted in the village of Anchang-ri tell the story about the method of eating the frozen pear.
