Third National Meeting of Active Heads of Neighbourhood Units Held in DPRK

The third national meeting of active heads of neighbourhood units in the DPRK was held in Pyongyang on March 16-17.

The meeting discussed practical ways in detail for making innovations in the work of dong and neighbourhood units as required by the new era, true to the intention of the Workers’ Party of Korea to further consolidate the cornerstone of the Korean-style socialist system centered on the masses of the people and the foundation of the DPRK government and build a comprehensively developed, prosperous state on the solid ground.

On August 13, Juche 70 (1981), Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the Ice Rink under construction, where workers were putting finishing touches on its interior.

Outside, he was beaming at the crown-shaped roof and the leaning pillars that resembled rocket launching pads. As he was walking into the building, his smile faded at the sight of the conical ceiling that was decorated with layers of galvanized iron strips.

In the early 20th century, the Korean people who had remained bound in the fetters of age-old backwardness, poverty and feudalism were driven into a miserable plight under the military occupation of the Japanese imperialists (1905-1945).

In those days of national ruin, Kim Il Sung was born on April 15, 1912. Regarding love for his country, nation and people as his lifetime motto, he embarked on the road of revolution in his early days and performed great exploits that would be handed down for ages. He liberated Korea by commanding the 20-year-long anti-Japanese revolutionary war to victory. He built a powerful socialist country―independent in politics, self-sufficient in the economy and self-reliant in national defence―by leading the building of a new society, the Fatherland Liberation War, the post-war rehabilitation, the social revolutions of two stages and the socialist construction to victory.
